Sophomore Expedition Blog!

Hi folks - after struggling to make room for the expedition here I've decided it's grown enough to need it's own blog! Check it out over here.

Stay tuned here for the latest from Burleigh Mountain!

Here we go!

So we're shifting gears a bit to the Sophomore Expedition here on the Burleigh blog. Stay tuned for updates on the gear room, student meetings and clothing lists.

For now I wanted to let you know we're choosing groups on Monday after school meeting!

Here's how it's going to work: every sophomore will be able to pick three people that they want to be in a group with. I'll make sure everyone is in a group with at least one of those three people. Sometimes I'm able to set up groups so that two or even all three of the folks are together. There are several ways to help set up groups the way you want, I'll let you figure that out for yourselves!

We decide groups this way so students have some say into their group. Students will also decide on their menu on expedition. All of these activities are designed to give students more and more control over their expedition until they are finally running the show by the last days of the trip.

If you are concerned about the hiking component of the expedition for any reason please indicate 'non-hiker' on the group selection form and we'll connect to talk more about making sure you have an awesome expedition in a way that is safe for you.

If you are already starting to worry about weather and clothes - check out this video! It's a good introduction to layering and some of the clothes you might be using on the trip.

No, really.

It won't be this cold on expedition. I promise.

This reminds me of the time I went on a winter hike across the Presidential Range and didn't bring a compass. Not a good idea since we had conditions not that different from those in the video, couldn't find the trail, wandered around, broke the tent etc.

The scientists on Mt. Washington are definately a little crazy - but what a cool job!

So everyone don't forget: bring a compass.

And lots of warm socks.

Thanks Mike for sending me the link!

Welcome SophX 2007!

Wecome parents and students visiting the blog for the first time. This site will be the portal for all the excitement before, during and after the Sophomore Cooperative Learning Expedition 2007!
To get things started here are some downloads that might be helpful. We sent home the gear list and health update form in the mail and gave the gear list again to the students, but just in case they went missing they are available for download.

We'll have a lot more here including updates on the course preparations, pictures and messages from students in the field and of course the slideshow at the end of the expedition. If you're interested to see what last year was like click on the SophX 2006 link over on the right!

Please note that it's important to make sure your child returns from spring break with all the clothing on the gear list. Please contact Hans Mundahl at (603) 677 - 3572 if you have any questions!
